How to run a youth baseball tournament
Running a youth baseball tournament comes down to five decisions: how many teams and games each is guaranteed, what format fits the fields and daylight you have, how pool play seeds into the bracket, what your tiebreakers are, and how scores get from the field to the bracket. Settle those five before you take a single entry fee.
Pool play vs bracket
Pool play guarantees each team several games and generates seeds from real results, at the cost of more total games. A straight bracket is faster and needs fewer slots, but eliminates half the field immediately. Most youth tournaments use pool play to seed a bracket, getting both.
Seeding and tiebreakers
The conventional youth baseball tiebreaker order is head-to-head result, then fewest runs allowed, then run differential with a per-game cap, then runs scored, then a coin flip. What matters more than the order is publishing it before the tournament starts.
